Camp 6, Edmonton, Alberta

WELCOME TO CAMP 6

Overview

The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer (the Iron Ring Ceremony) has been a uniquely Canadian tradition for almost 100 years and is the responsibility of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens.

The private Obligation Ceremony where Iron Rings are presented to Engineering graduates and other qualified obligants is held in every Canadian community where Engineering is taught, by one of 28 local 'Camps'.  More than 550,000 Engineers have been obligated in Canada.

Camp 6 administers The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer in the Edmonton, Alberta area and our first Obligation Ceremony was held in 1930.  To date Camp 6 has obligated over 35,000 Engineering graduates and practicing Engineers at more than 180 Iron Ring Ceremonies.

Iron Rings are worn by many Engineers in Canada, reminding those who wear it - and others - of their ethical obligation to live by a high standard of professional conduct in the service of the public.

The Iron Ring is not a symbol of registration to practice as an Engineer in Canada.  Qualification and registration to practice is the sole responsibility of the Provincial and Territorial licensing bodies (APEGA in Alberta).

Information about the history of the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer and contact information for other Camps is available at the Corporation of the Seven Wardens website: www.ironring.ca
